Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday said members of the law enforcement agencies are ready to ensure security of the English New Year celebration on 31st December midnight.
“The law enforcement agencies are ready to face any untoward situation at the night,” he told newsmen while inaugurating Dhaka Metropolitan Shooting Club as the chief guest at Police Convention Hall in the city.
Considering the security ground, he said, no open-air function would be allowed after 6pm on that night. Earlier, a meeting was also held to this end and issued a circular, he added.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque, Additional IGP (Administration and Operation) Mokhlesur Rahman, Additional IGP of Special Branch (SB) Dr M Javed Patwari, President of Bangladesh Sporting Sports Federation and Secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources Division of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Nazimuddin Chowdhury and Secretary General of Bangladesh Olympic Association Shahed Reza were present as special guests on the occasion.
President of Dhaka Metropolitan Shooting Club and Additional IGP (Armed Police Battalion) M Siddiqur Rahman presided over the meeting.
Kamal said members of the law enforcement agencies would conduct operations against illegal drug trading at that night.
Besides, law enforcers with uniform would remain alert so that none can create anarchy in Dhaka University and Gulshan areas, he said.
Plain clothes police, the home minister said, would be on patrol at the night.
