The Cabinet on Monday approved a proposal to observe December 12 as the National ICT Day to recognise the country’s advancement in Information and Communication Technology and achieve Digital Bangladesh goal.
Cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam disclosed this at a press briefing at the secretariat in the afternoon.
Shafiul said, “The Cabinet approved the proposal as Bangladesh has advanced much in ICT sector. Besides, the number of mobile and internet users has risen significantly.
The day has been chosen to be observed as the National ICT Day as on that day in 2008 Awami League introduced the concept of ‘Digital Bangladesh’ in its election manifesto, he said.
The Cabinet also approved the draft of Barind Multipurpose Development Authority Bill in principal during the meeting, he added.
The meeting was held at Prime Minister’s Office around 10 am in the morning.
