Awami League has reverence for judiciary, democracy: Hanif

The Joint General Secretary of ruling Awami League, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, on Sunday said that his party has great reverence for the judiciary and democracy.

Speaking as chief guest of a council of Shramik League Kushtia unit at Shilpakala Academy he came up with the remark replying BNP’s allegation that the government had forced the Chief Justice SK Sinha to resign from his duties.

“They (BNP) are creating the confusion by stating an ailing person (SK Sinha) as well while Awami League has always had great respect for judiciary and democracy,” he said.

“The Chief Justice went on retirement like he wanted, no one has anything to say about it,” he said adding that rather BNP has previous history of abusing judiciary.
“This judiciary was first polluted by the hand of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman. He suspended many justices without using Judicial Council,” he alleged.

He also urged BNP to leave the path of spoilt politics.

Jatiya Shramik League Executive President Fazlul Haque Mantu, General Secretary Sirajul Islam, Awami League President of Kushtia unit Sadar Uddin also spoke, among others.
