Install polls-time government, dissolve JS as per most parties’ desire: BNP

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the government and the Election Commission to take steps to hold the next general election in a credible manner by installing a polls-time neutral government and deploying army during polls as per the desire of most political parties.

“Most of the political parties (during the talks with the EC) said an election-time neutral administration, deployment of army and dissolving parliament are necessary for a neutral and fair election. We hope the government and the Election Commission will take steps in this regard,” he said.

The BNP leader further said, “We would like to say clearly that if the election-time government is not installed, parliament is not dissolved and army is not deployed, the election won’t be meaningful and acceptable to anyone and the political crisis won’t be over.”

Fakhrul came up with the comments on Friday while talking to reporters after placing wreaths together with Jubo Dal leaders and activists at BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave, marking the party’s youth wing’s 39th founding anniversary.

As his attention was drawn to the Chief Election Commissioner’s comment that the EC has noting to do over the introduction of the election-time government and dissolving parliament, the BNP leader said the election will not be fair if the Commission fails to do that.
