Tamim-less Tigers seek to avoid whitewash against Proteas

Bangladesh will face hosts South Africa in the 3rd and last ODI of the three-match series at Buffalo Park in East London on Sunday with a hope to display a better performance for avoiding the whitewash.

The match will begin at 2pm Bangladesh time.

The Tigers will face an uphill task when they take the ground for the last match without their opener Tamim Iqbal who was ruled out due to injury and replaced by Mominul Haque.

Tamim was ruled out of the rest of Bangladesh’s tour to South Africa after suffering an irritating injury on his left thigh muscle for the second time in two weeks.

He is expected to return home on October 22 and is set to miss at least the first two weeks of the Bangladesh Premier League, which is scheduled to start on November 4.

Bangladesh conceded a 104-run defeat in the 2nd game at Boland Park in Paarl following a humiliating 10-wicket loss in the 1st ODI at Diamond Oval in Kimberley what gave the hosts to dominate the series 2-0.

Bangladesh could promote Shakib Al Hasan to number 3 and Liton Kumar Das with Soumya Sarkar in the opening.

Apart from bringing in Mominul, Nasir Hossain could also be replaced by Mehedi Hasan Miraz or Mohammad Saifuddin.

Hashim Amla has been rested and his replacement, Aiden Markram, could be in line for an ODI debut. Temba Bavuma is another contender for that spot. Wiaan Mulder, the 19-year-old all-rounder, could replace Dwaine Pretorius.

Bangladesh best XI (probable): Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque/Soumya Sarkar/Liton Kumar Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Sabbir Rahman, Mohammad Saifuddin/Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (captain), Rubel Hossain and Taskin Ahmed.
