The 71st birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League, was celebrated on Thursday across the country with various programmes, including milad and doa mahfils seeking divine blessings for her good health and long life.
On this day in 1947, Sheikh Hasina, the eldest of the five children of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Begum Fazilatunnesa, was born at Tungipara of Gopalganj in Faridpur district.
In celebration of the birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is now in the United States in connection with the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session, central leaders of Awami League (AL) wished her long life and success in politics. The prime minister will return home on October 5.
Prominent citizens including educationalists, economists, writers, physicians and cultural personalities wished good health and long life of Sheikh Hasina, who is leading the country as the prime minister for the second consecutive five-year term.
Marking the day, special prayers were offered at different mosques and temples, including at Dhakeshwari National Temple, and churches, pagodas and other religious places across the country.
Cultural events and milad and doa mahfils were also held in the capital and in different parts of the country.
On the 71st birthday of Sheikh Hasina, all the government hospitals and healthcare centres remained open for additional two hours today for providing health services to more patients and the people who are in need of health services.
Marking the day, a milad and doa mahfil was held at Ganobhaban after Asr prayers here. Senior officials of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Ganobhaban joined the milad and doa mahfil.
In observance of the premier’s birthday, Dhaka South City Awami League organised a discussion on the life and achievements of the premier at the Engineers’ Institution in the capital city. AL General Secretary (GS) and Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Dhaka South City Awami League President Abul Hasnat in the chair.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader and Presidium Member Matia Chowdhury distributed rickshaw-vans and food among the poor and the destitute at Bangabandhu Bhaban in the city. The event was organized by the relief and social welfare sub-committee of the Awami League.
Conducted by the Social Welfare Secretary of the organization Sujit Nandi Ray, AL joint general secretary Abdur Rahman, Organizing Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Dhaka South City AL General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad attended the programme, among others.
Under the same programme, special meals were distributed among the inmates of Azimpur orphanage and students of different schools in the capital.
Dhaka South City Jubo League organized a discussion at Shaheed Suhrawardy Uddyan in the city, which attended by Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader as the chief guest.
Awami Jubo League Chairman Mohammad Omar Faruque and its General Secretary M Harunur Rashid spoke as special guests while Dhaka City South Jubo League President Ismail Hossain Chowdhury presided over the meeting.
Later, a milad mahfil and voluntary blood donation programme were held marking the birthday of the Prime Minister.
Marking the 71st birthday of the premier, a discussion was held at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the city. AL Presidium Member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim addressed the discussion as the chief guest with BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan in the chair.
A milad mahfil was held and special prayer offered at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Johr prayers. The event was organized by Islamic Foundation (IF) seeking divine blessings for good health and long life of the Prime Minister.
Baitul Mukarram Mosque Senior Imams Maulana Muhammad Mizanur Rahman and Maulana Ahsanul Haque conducted the milad and prayer that were attended by AL General Secretary (GS) and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Presidium Member Abdur Razzak, joint general secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman and IF Director General Shamim Mohammad Afzal.
Bangabandhu Gabeshana Parishad (BGP) celebrated the day by holding a discussion titled “Leader Sheikh Hasina and Humanity”, milad and doa mahfils and by cutting cake in the city. BGP President Lion Md Gani Miah chaired the discussion attended by Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq as the chief guest.
Freedom fighters and their children celebrated the day through Quaran Khwani, discussion and milad mahfil at the Jatiya Press Club in the city. Jatiya Muktijoddha Samannay Committee (JMSC) Chairman Harun-Or-Rashid chaired the discussion, attended by State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki as the chief guest.
A milad and doa mahfil was held at Hazrat Shajalal (R) Dargah Mosque. Sylhet City and District Awami League organized the mahfil. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith and Sylhet City AL President Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran were present, among others.
