You may have dry, normal or oily scalp and rough or thick hair. Pick the right oil keeping in mind the type of scalp and hair texture.

For normal hair, almond or amla-based oil are best for you.

For dull and dry hair prone to split ends, coconut, sesame or mustard oil works well.

For oily hair, olive or jojoba oil are advised.

For dandruff-affected hair, you must try tea tree oil to treat the problem.

Make it a ritual to oil your hair before every wash.

Apply the oil on your head, give a thorough massage and leave it overnight. Shampoo the next morning.

Never leave hair-oil for more than a day as then your scalp may start attracting dirt particles from the environment.  It will weaken your hair root making them more prone to breakage.

Oil at least once a week if you can’t oil every time before shampooing.

Always apply lukewarm oil in your hair from root to tip.

Make partitions while oiling. Gently massage your scalp with your finger tips or cotton ball in the parting so that each part of your head is well oiled.

Don’t pour oil directly on your head and massage with your palm. It may weaken your hair and damage them. A gentle massage is sufficient to improve blood circulation and relax your mind.

After massage, dip a towel in hot water and wrap it around your head covering all your hair for 15 to 20 minutes. Make sure that the towel should not be too hot as it may harm your hair shaft.

Don’t apply too much oil. Take adequate quantity according to the length of your hair and the need off your scalp. Each part of your scalp should get nourished with little oil.

Oiling promotes hair growth and improves the texture. Right selection and application of oil can make a big difference to your hair.
