President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday hoped that the Durga Puja will be celebrated across the country peacefully with the participation of all.
He said this when an 11-member delegation of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad met him at Bangabhaban in the afternoon.
President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abdein briefed reporters after the meeting, reports UNB.
Hamid said Durga Puja is a common festival in Bangladesh and the festivals of different religions are observed here peacefully from the time immemorial.
He said Bangladesh is an example of cultural harmony where the people of all religions have been performing their respective religious rituals freely and with dignity.
The President greeted the Hindus on the occasion of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the community.
During the meeting, the delegation extended Durga Puja greetings to the President.
The delegation apprised the President that the Durga Puja is being celebrated across the country peacefully in a festive mood, and invited him to attend their Bijoya Sommelon.
