Bangladesh U-16 women concede 2-3 defeat against Australia

Bangladesh Under-16 Women’s Football Team conceded 2-3 goals defeat after making a brave fight against stronger Australia in their 3rd and last Group B match of the eight-team final round of the AFC U-16 Championship at the IPE Stadium in Chonburi, Thailand on Sunday.


The match was locked in 1-1 goal in the first half.


Laura Emily Hughes put Australia ahead in the 9th minute (1-0) while defender Shamsunnahar leveled the margin for Bangladesh in the 45th minute (1-1).


Bangladesh took lead in the 51st minute by a nice goal from Monika Chakma (2-1), but Kyra Cooney-Cross restored the parity for Australia in the 78th minute (2-2).


Finally, Sofia Sakalis scored the match-winning goal for Australia in the 83rd minute to the frustration of Bangladesh.


With this, Bangladesh completed their mega tournament empty-handed playing three matches and finished bottom in the group while World Cup-playing Australia bagged three points from three matches to finish 3rd in the four-team group.


On completion of the group matches, Japan emerged Group B champions with all-win record beating holders North Korea by 2-1 goals in the last group match at the Chonburi Stadium.


On the other hand, China clinched the Group A title securing seven points from all three matches by virtue of better goal difference (12 plus goals) while South Korea finished group runners-up also with seven points (10 plus goals).


In the semifinals on Wednesday, China will play North Korea at 4pm local time while Japan will face South Korea at 7:30 pm local time, both a Chonburi Stadium.


Earlier, Krinhna Rani Sarker-led Bangladesh conceded 0-3 goals defeat against World Junior Women’s Champions Japan in their 2nd group match on Thursday after a humiliating 0-9 goal defeat against holders North Korea in their first appearance.


Australia suffered 0-7 goals defeat against North Korea and conceded 0-5 goals defeat against Japan.
